In Court TV's "Interview with a Killer," Celeste Beard Johnson, 63, proclaims that she did not orchestrate the shooting of her fourth husband Steven Beard in 1999

Furious at the questions she was asked during the interview, she ended it by storming off and cursing at the reporter

Convicted murderer Celeste Beard Johnson became so enraged during a recent TV interview that she ended it by swearing at the reporter and saying “We’re done.”

Johnson, 63, said she agreed to sit down with Court TV reporter David Scott for the Season 4 finale of “Interview with a Killer," in order to proclaim her innocence.

In 2003, Johnson was convicted of murder in connection with the 1999 death of her fourth husband, Texas businessman Steven Beard, 74, and is serving a life sentence at a Texas women’s prison.

Pointing out that a jury had found her guilty and that multiple witnesses, including her twin daughters, had testified against her, Scott noted that of all the cases the show has covered, “yours might be the one in which the convict's account and the evidentiary record are the furthest apart.”

In response to pointed questions he asked her, she told him she thought he was being too “aggressive” and “antagonistic,” adding, “maybe because I am a Republican and I love Trump.”

He said that had nothing to do with his being “straightforward” with her and continued asking her tough questions, including about her romantic life and relationships she had with older successful men.

When he described her behavior as “predatory," she bristled and replied, “It’s not predatory. I hated men at that point.”

Johnson was working as a waitress at a country club when she met Beard, who had just lost his wife. The two soon began dating.

“You knew he was rich, right?” Scott asked.

“What does that have to do with anything?” she snapped.

That, he said, “has everything to do with this case, right? You yourself said that you married him for his money and it was no secret, right?”

“And he married me because I was a trophy wife. Transactional.”

Johnson became further agitated when Scott asked her about her seemingly troubled relationship with her daughters. “You think that the things that you did for them show your love for them, but it really shows your selfish focus on your own needs," he said.

Before he could continue, she turned away from him and said, “I'm done with this visit, Sergeant.”

Telling Scott, "We're done," she accused him of “talking down" to her.

Scott said he was simply conducting an interview like “a professional reporter,” before telling her bluntly that "you realize for you to be telling the truth, everyone else has to be lying.”

Raising her voice at him, she said, “I wrote that book and you read it!” referring to the 2019 biography he cited during the interview, “The Celeste Beard Johnson Story,” in which she tells her story to authors Nancy Hall and WR Mesiano.

As she was leaving, he asked, “So, are you a narcissistic sociopath?”

“You” she replied, “are an a–hole.”

As she walked out of the room, she could be heard muttering, ‘Stupid idiot. I’m glad you read the book. Quote it back to me. Dumb.”

She added, “Of course, that'll be on national TV. My mother's going to kill me.”

Months later, Johnson invited Scott to return to continue the interview.

They discussed how Beard survived being shot in the bedroom of his Westlake Hills home while he was sleeping, and spent four months in the hospital recovering from his wounds.

Shortly after returning home, he fell ill and was rushed back to the hospital, where he died days later.

According to the autopsy, the cause of Beard's death was pulmonary embolism and bronchopneumonia with sepsis, a complication of his shotgun wound, according to court records.

Found guilty, Johnson, who remarried six months after Beard died and changed her name to Celeste Beard Johnson, was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 40 years.

Her alleged lover, Tracey Tarlton, was convicted of shooting Beard and sentenced to 10 years in prison with 12 years of probation. She was released in 2011.

Johnson is serving her sentence at the Dr. Lane Murray Unit, a women’s prison in Gatesville operated by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
