Tom Cruise Has Warning for Anyone Who Works With Him: ‘The Rumors Are True’

Tom Cruise warns those who want to work with him, saying, “The rumors are true.” Cruise opened up about his intense approach to work and what he expects from people who work with him.
Tom Cruise says he makes his intense work ethic clear before cameras start rolling
In an exclusive cover story for GQ Magazine, Cruise discussed the work ethic that has shaped his career. The Oscar-nominated actor admitted that the rumors about his intensity on set are accurate.
“When I’m working with people, I’m not afraid to, as I’m acting, to look foolish, to do it,” Cruise said. “It’s like: That’s not what this is about. It’s finding our tone, finding these tools together and having an experience.”
Cruise said he makes his expectations clear before working with someone.
“And look, I work hard, and people that work with me, they know. I expect a lot, and I’m upfront about it,” he said. “It’s like: ‘The rumors are true. And do you want this?’ I’m like, ‘Trust me, the rumors are true. I’ll be here before you. What experience do you want?’”

Cruise also acknowledged that people have described him as intense since childhood.
“Even when I was a kid, they were like, ‘Oh, come on, Tom. You’re so intense.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know what to say. I am intense,’” he said. “I got a very good sense of humor about it, but it was like: When I’m interested in something, I want to learn it. I want to understand it. And you want to blast through the confusion and build up that ability.”
According to Variety, Cruise also tries to avoid using his phone while working. He prefers direct conversations instead of lengthy emails.
“Don’t send me a detailed email. Come talk to me. I like to talk to people,” Cruise said.
Cruise also discussed his enduring love for the theatrical experience. He acknowledged that television and streaming platforms such as Netflix create jobs, but said he remains drawn to cinema because it brings audiences together in the same room.
