The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s box office results are out of this world.
After debuting on Wednesday, April 1, the sequel to the 2023 hit The Super Mario Bros. Movie has so far netted $190.1 million in theaters across the U.S., according to The Hollywood Reporter. (The outlet reported the movie is aiming for a $372.5 million total internationally.)
The animated video game adaptation has now earned the biggest film debut of 2026.
The release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie also marks the largest box office opening day of the year so far. It earned $34.5 million from 3,821 theaters, Variety reported.

Starring returning voice actors Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie added Donald Glover as Yoshi, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Glen Powell as Fox McCloud, Issa Rae as the Honey Queen, Luis Guzmán as Wart, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina.

Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, screenwriter Matthew Fogel, producers Meledandri and video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto returned to the franchise for the follow-up adaptation of the beloved Nintendo characters.
The film is based on the 2007 video game Super Mario Galaxy and its 2010 sequel.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s first official trailer gave fans a peek of Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and more back in action, along with a miniaturized Bowser living in a tiny version of his candle under Mario and Luigi's watchful eyes.
The original film was the second-highest-grossing release of 2023 with $1.3 billion worldwide.

The box office winners of 2026 so far include Ryan Gosling's Project Hail Mary, which hit theaters on March 20; James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, which first premiered on Dec. 19, 2025, and has extended its run into 2026; and Pixar’s Hoppers, an animated movie first released on March 6, per Box Office Mojo.
