The Big Game has become an even bigger deal this year.

An estimated 80% of U.S. adults are expected to watch Super Bowl 60, which matches the New England Patriots against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Feb. 8, up from 78% a year ago, according to a recent survey from the National Retail Federation. Last year's viewing audience of 127.7 million viewers set a new high, according to Nielsen.

An estimated 121.1 million will host or attend a Super Bowl party, while a good number (an estimated 18.2 million) said they plan to watch the game at a bar or restaurant, according to the 2026 Super Bowl Spending Survey, conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics, surveyed 7,791 adults Jan. 2-8, 2026.

But the game-break entertainment wasn’t always the pop culture spectacle it is today. Before Michael Jackson’s 1993 performance, it was mostly marching bands and performance ensembles taking the field.As the world gears up for Bad Bunny’s Feb. 8 performance, we look back at the headliners that helped turn halftime into a full-blown extravaganza. And because the Super Bowl calls for competition, we’re ranking the performances from worst to best, starting with Maroon 5 in 2019.The controversy between the NFL and player's protesting social justice meant most artists turned down performing at the 2019 Super Bowl in Atlanta.
