Shailene Woodley‘s stylist is speaking out after the star’s Emmys outfit drew polarizing opinions.

Karla Welch, who styled the *Fault in Our Stars* actress for the awards show, shared a cryptic post on Threads on Tuesday morning after Woodley’s unusual ensemble went viral.

“Love or hate something fine,” Welch wrote. “But it’s an opinion and it can even be a conversation.”

She added, “But being super rude and mean and taking glee from it, well that says a lot more about the mouths it’s coming from.”

Woodley wore a low-cut periwinkle top and shimmering gold pants from Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Balenciaga F/W 26 haute couture collection. She also wore burgundy leather gloves and a HOWL necklace made of Venetian glass, and wore her hair with a centered part and a low ponytail.

Welch’s post came shortly after Megyn Kelly went on a long-winded rant sharing her distaste for the *Big Little Lies* star’s outfit.

“The top looks slightly like a wrestling singlet. It’s extremely low-cut, and it almost doesn’t look intentionally so. It almost looks like she got attacked with some scissors or something,” Kelly said on Tuesday’s episode of SiriusXM’s *The Megyn Kelly Show*. “Unless you’ve got that super-tight middle with a teeny-tiny waist — and trust me, I’m not one of those people — you really can’t pull off a top like this, ‘cause it gathers right around your belly. And that’s generally not where any of us want attention going.”

She continued, “I think there’s an attempt to distract us with the cleavage, but I’m just gonna say: only the Halle Berrys of the world can really do that. You know, there’s a few others. Zendaya. But unless you’ve got an absolutely stunning rack, it’s probably not a great idea to show that much of the boobs. That much of the girls. A little, I’m fine with a little. I’ve shown a little in pictures. But a little goes a long way, I’d say.”

Kelly also criticized Woodley’s pants. “It is ugly,” she said. “It looks like a tan burlap sack that she put on not one but both legs, which is also pooling on the floor, as if she didn’t have the extra money to hire a tailor to come and give her a proper hem.”

Kelly opined that Woodley’s hair is “not doing her any favors” and that the gloves “don’t work” at all.

“I’m sorry, I like you, Shailene,” she concluded. “It’s a thumbs down. I blame your stylist, not you.”

Woodley won her first Emmy last week for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her work in *Paradise*.

“This is so exciting, my heart is beating so fast, I don’t really know what to say. Mom, this is pretty cool!” she said in her acceptance speech, which came at the Creative Arts Emmys last week prior to Monday’s main ceremony. “I just feel so lucky to do what we do and to be a part of the circus with all of you amazing, traveling, storytelling clowns, and it’s just — I love it. I’m so nervous. I have to finish this. But thank you so much.”
