- “She’s not sick,” Joy Behar said after Whoopi Goldberg announced the news.

- Goldberg replied: “All we’ve got to tell them is that she’s not here.”

*The View* cohost Sara Haines missed Wednesday morning’s episode of the talk show — and her cohosts had a puzzling exchange about her absence from the daytime TV series.

“As you see, Sara is out today. She’ll be with us maybe tomorrow. We’ll see,” moderator and Oscar-winning *Ghost* actress Whoopi Goldberg said after the four remaining cohosts — including Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin — took their seats at the Hot Topics table.

“She’s not sick,” Behar quickly jumped in to clarify, to which Goldberg said, “Okay.”

Behar clarified why she made the admission, telling the audience, “People get worried when someone disappears” from the table.

“All we’ve got to tell them is that she’s not here,” Goldberg advised. “They’ll notice it, but we mention it because we don’t want them to think we don’t notice it. You know what I mean? So, that’s why we say what you already can see.”

The show then moved on without further mention of Haines’ absence from the show, or a definitive indication as to when she’ll return.

In June, Haines missed the talk show due to an emergency at home, with the star later revealing that the basement of her home caved in.

“Last time, it was our water heater, this time it was just a water pipe. But the damage was three times as bad. It’s not our whole basement; it’s a whole corner of our basement. They had to cut it out, we had professional air cleaners,” Haines recounted on the show’s *Behind the Table *podcast. “The bigger problem here is they kind of raised this to us, this has happened twice in six months, these pieces are used throughout your house. So, now we’re in that intermediary time where do we go proactively find all these pieces to get ahead of it, or do we keep waiting until it happens?”

Behar has also weathered several extended absences from* The View* in the recent past, including a hiatus at the start of summer so she and actress Jackie Hoffman could travel to London to present the Behar-penned play *My First Ex-Husband.*

In late 2025, Behar missed several episodes of the show due to a foot injury: “Now, I’ve been off for a few days,” Behar said, before explaining what happened to her foot,” Behar told the audience when she finally returned to the table. “I dropped my iPad on my foot and I broke my toe.... And they put the toes together because it’s broken, and it’s very, very, very painful. I do not recommend you dropping anything on your toes.”
