Hollywood star Reese Witherspoon sent an uplifting message to Olympic skiing champion Lindsey Vonn after the athlete shared shocking news about a recent injury.
On Instagram, Vonn posted a photo of herself holding the U.S. flag and detailed her injuries after a crash during a World Cup downhill race in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.
Witherspoon commented on the post with enthusiasm, writing, “What a champion's spirit ! 💪 Let's GOOOOO LV !”
In her Instagram post, Vonn revealed, “I completely tore my ACL last Friday. I also sustained a bone bruise… plus meniscal tears.”

The injury came just one week before the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, leaving fans and fellow athletes anxious. Despite the setback, Vonn explained she had consulted with doctors, undergone therapy and tested her knee by skiing.
“I am confident in my body’s ability to perform,” she said. “Despite my injuries, my knee is stable, there is no swelling, and my muscles are firing as they should.”

Vonn plans to compete in the women’s downhill event on Feb. 8, though she will need one official training run to qualify.
Vonn, 41, has endured a career full of injuries, including torn ACLs, meniscus damage, fractures and a knee replacement surgery in April 2024. She retired in 2019 after accumulating 82 World Cup wins and three Olympic medals, but returned to competitive skiing in November 2024.
This is not Vonn’s first comeback. She has repeatedly returned to the slopes after severe injuries, including competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics with a fractured knee.
“I’ve been in this position before. I know how to handle it,” Vonn said.
Vonn has a special connection with Cortina, Italy, where she holds 12 World Cup victories and earned her first World Cup podium in 2004.
“It's such a special place for me,” she explained. The location made her comeback attempt meaningful, potentially marking a memorable conclusion to her Olympic career.
Despite the crash and torn ACL, Vonn remains determined. “As long as there’s a chance, I will try. I will do everything in my power to be in that starting gate,” she said. Vonn’s goal is to compete in the downhill and evaluate later for the team combined and super-G events, showing the same resilience that has defined her career.
Fans and celebrities alike, including Reese Witherspoon, are rallying behind Vonn’s courage. With the opening ceremony approaching on Friday, all eyes will be on the veteran skier to see if she can turn a near-disaster into one of the most inspiring comebacks in Olympic history.
