There’s just three weeks to go until the new Premier League season gets underway and still time for plenty of new signings who could be in with a shout of finishing top scorer.
Several strikers, not least Vinicius Junior, are being linked with a move to England, but whoever does come will face a tough challenge if they are to outscore Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
The Norway striker, who scored seven goals at the World Cup, has finished as the Premier League’s top scorer in three of his four seasons at the Etihad.
He scored 36 goals in 33 league starts in his first season and has scored more than 20 in each of the three seasons since.
Last season he finished with 58 goals in 64 games for club and country and 27 Premier League goals to earn him the league’s Golden Boot trophy, so it’s no surprise he is the favourite with online bookmakers to finish as the leading scorer again.
The only player other than Haaland to top the charts since the Norwegian arrived from Dortmund in 2022 is Mo Salah, who finished top of the pile in the 2024/25 season with 29 goals and 18 assists as Liverpool won the league.
He won’t be among the competition next season after leaving Anfield at the end of last season, but could someone else from the 20-time champions step up?

Alexander Isak had a debut season to forget for Liverpool after joining for a then-record £125m fee from Newcastle United.
He missed most of the pre-season due to a prolonged transfer saga, which led to a slow start to the campaign and then also broke his leg just before Christmas, which ruled him out for over three months.
He finished the season with just four goals for Liverpool but did add a further two on international duty, including the second goal in Sweden’s 5-1 World Cup win over Tunisia.
Isak outscored Haaland the season before, with 23 league goals to finish second only to Salah, but in total he netted 32 in 48 appearances for club and country to earn that big money move to Liverpool.
With Hugo Ekitike set to miss the best part of the season after rupturing his Achilles' tendon in April and Salah departing, there will be more pressure than ever to hit the ground running this season, and football betting sites have him as the second favourite to finish as top scorer at odds of 10/1 and many are offering each way terms for the top four positions.

Premier League top scorertips: Will Brazilian pair impress again?
Igor Thiago was the Premier League surprise package last season. After making just eight appearances in his first season and failing to score, he finished as the second leading scorer behind Haaland with 22.
He cost Brentford £30m when he moved from Club Brugge in July 2024 and showed last season just why they spent that much on him.
Following the departures of manager Thomas Frank as well as forwards Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo, the Brazilian had filled the void with 12 goals by the end of November.

He finished the season with 25 in all competitions for the Bees, form which saw him earn his first call-up for Brazil in March, and secure a place in the 26-man World Cup squad.
He made just one appearance in the World Cup, but that experience alongside the likes of Vinicius Junior and Raphinha will no doubt fire him up ahead of the new season.
Betting apps have him at 12/1 to improve on last season’s golden boot standing, just ahead of fellow Brazilian Joao Pedro, who is fresh from a nine-minute hat-trick in Chelsea’s 6-4 pre-season win in Australia.
Pedro was also in that Brazil squad in March before he was left out of Carlo Ancelotti’s final World Cup squad, despite scoring 20 goals last season.
Only 15 of those came in the league, but he has shown on several occasions just what he is capable of. Pedro scored a hat-trick in the 4-1 at Aston Villa, as well as two in Naples as Chelsea came from behind to win 3-2 in the Champions League.
With a change of manager and more experience being added to the Blues squad, he will be hoping he can benefit and add to his already impressive Premier League tally after scoring 19 in 42 starts for Brighton.
Another player looking to impress this season will be Brian Brobbey, who had a good World Cup scoring three goals for the Netherlands.
The Sunderland striker thrived in a front three alongside Cody Gakpo and Donyell Malen or Crysencio Summerville. He scored twice in the 5-1 win over Sweden and one in the 3-1 win over Tunisia.
He’ll be keen to improve on numbers from his first season in the Premier League, and if Regis Le Bris can play a more attacking formation, then he and Sunderland will only benefit.
