Mary Carillo will join Terry Gannon in Milan to host NBC's Opening Ceremony coverage of the 2026 Winter Olympics amid the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy.
“Our hearts go out to Savannah and the entire Guthrie family. They continue to have our full support,” said Molly Solomon, executive producer and president of NBC Olympics Production, in a statement on Feb. 4.
“We are fortunate to have a deep bench of talented commentators who will step in and fill these roles. Mary is one of the most experienced Olympic commentators ever and a master storyteller. She and Terry will lead the American audience through one of the world’s greatest global moments," Solomon continued.

Milan Cortina 2026 will mark Carillo's 17th Olympic assignment and 14th with NBCUniversal.
Guthrie, 54, was set to serve as a co-host alongside Terry Gannon, with commentary from snowboarder Shaun White, in Milan, Italy, during the ceremony on Friday, Feb. 6.
PEOPLE confirmed on Feb. 3 that the Today host would no longer be a part of the coverage. Her Today co-host, Craig Melvin, will also no longer travel to Milan and will instead remain "stateside," according to NBC.
Melvin was set to host Olympic Late Night from Milan from Feb. 7 to the 9. Ahmed Fareed, who, per NBC, was already scheduled to serve as a daytime host in Milan for a portion of the Games, will now host Olympic Late Night in Melvin's place.
Guthrie's mother, Nancy, went missing on Saturday, Jan. 31. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) launched an urgent search for the "vulnerable" 84-year-old one day later, with officials saying she was last seen at her residence near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue at around 9:30 p.m. local time.
Nearly 72 hours since Nancy was first reported missing, authorities remain hopeful that the 84-year-old is still alive.

"We have nothing else to go on but the belief that she is here,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a new interview with NBC’s Liz Kreutz, which aired on the Today show on Feb. 4. “She's present. She's alive, and we want to save her."
However, authorities have been upfront about having no suspects as they continue to search for Nancy.
