The mystery behind the death of JonBenét Ramsey is getting the Netflix treatment once again.

The streamer has released the first look at the upcoming limited series *The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey*, in which Oscar-nominated actors Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen star as Patsy and John Bennett Ramsey.

Hailing from showrunner Richard LaGravenese (*Behind the Candelabra*) and 101 Studios (the production company behind the Taylor Sheridan-verse), *The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey* will center on one of the most infamous unsolved murder cases in American history, further diving into the reckoning that followed the killing of the six-year-old beauty pageant contestant.

On Dec. 26, 1996, police arrived at the Ramsey home in Boulder, Colo., following Patsy finding a lengthy ransom note that demanded $118,000 for the safe return of JonBenét. Later that day, authorities located the girl’s body in a locked room in the basement, wrapped in a white blanket with duct tape covering her mouth and cords around her neck and wrists.

An autopsy ruled the death a homicide, attributing it to “asphyxia by strangulation associated with craniocerebral trauma.” Many viewed Patsy, John, and their oldest child, Burke, as the prime suspects. In 1998, a grand jury indicted the parents on two counts of child abuse resulting in JonBenét’s death, believing they “did unlawfully, knowingly, recklessly and feloniously permit a child to be unreasonably placed in a situation which posed a threat of injury to the child’s life or health.”

Prosecutors decided not to move forward with the case, believing they did not have sufficient evidence to convict. In 2008, then-Boulder County District Attorney Mary Lacy issued a statement exonerating John and Patsy of any criminal wrongdoing in JonBenét’s murder, pointing to DNA evidence that was not available in 1999.
