Influencer Rebecca Zamolo said her husband, Matthew Yoakum, suffered second-degree burns after his face caught fire during a barbecue shortly before the couple was due to travel to Hawaii.
Zamolo, 41, shared photos of Yoakum’s injuries on Instagram and told followers the accident happened only hours before their planned flight. Despite the incident, she said Yoakum, 46, still wanted to make the trip, which was intended to celebrate his birthday.
“For those who don’t know, Matt’s face caught on fire at our BBQ and it gave him ‘2nd degree superficial burns’,” Zamolo wrote. The news follows Donald Trump posting a bizarre AI photo of himself as Elvis on social media.

She wrote, “It was hours before our flight to Hawaii to celebrate his birthday so he has been healing here. (He still wanted to go). It was a scary incident for all of us, and a reminder how precious life is. Thank you to everyone that has reached out and friends that are in the medical field and put him on a good path to heal."
Zamolo concluded the post, "He’s extremely lucky as it could have been a lot worse, but we are taking it day by day. We love you Matt.”

The images showed visible burns across parts of Yoakum’s face as he continued recovering from the accident. The photographs documented his condition abroad and offered followers a look at the redness and damage caused by the flames. Zamolo did not provide further details about how the fire started or whether he received hospital treatment immediately afterward.
Her post prompted a wave of supportive messages from followers, many of whom expressed relief that Yoakum’s injuries were not more severe.
“Omg. That is horrible. So happy he’s okay,” one person wrote. Another added, "Sending love & prayers.” A third follower said, "This is awful! Get well soon Matt!”
Zamolo has built a large online audience through family-focused videos, challenges and entertainment content. She has about 3.3 million followers on Instagram and more than 30 million subscribers on YouTube.

The Hawaii trip came at an unexpected time for the family, with Yoakum recovering while also marking his birthday. Zamolo said friends with medical experience had helped guide his treatment and recovery after the barbecue accident.
Although she described the incident as frightening, Zamolo emphasized that her husband was fortunate and that the family was focused on his healing. She also thanked supporters for checking in and sending messages following the post.
The couple has not shared a detailed update on his condition since the images were posted, but Zamolo said they were handling his recovery one day at a time.
