- Breakout *Obsession* star Inde Navarrette said at TIFF that eagle-eyed fans can spot a key change in her appearance in footage shot before and after reshoots.
- The actress and director Curry Barker appeared together on stage at the festival, one year after presenting the film at the Canadian event.
- Navarrette is now courting Oscar buzz for her leading turn as Nikki, a young woman possessed by an evil entity after her friend makes a wish that sheāll fall in love with him.
Breakout *Obsession* actress Inde Navarretteās life mightāve changed for the better after starring in the runaway horror hit, but, as the actress also revealed, so did her physical appearance in footage that plays in the project from before and after reshoots.
After director Curry Barker previously revealed that the massive box office hit underwent multi-day reshoots to enhance certain elements, Navarrette said Friday at the Toronto International Film Festival that fans can see a marked shift in her appearance after she returned to set.
āI was stoked to see everybody again. I mean, it had been a while,ā the 25-year-old future *X-Men* series star said on stage, while seated next to Barker for a panel discussion on the filmās success.
She then called out that, āIf you watch the movie again [youāll see] I was fresh off a camping trip. Iām Mexican, so I tan. Iām, like, darker in certain scenes,ā she said.
The audience laughed, before Navarrette added, āI was trying to stay inside for a week hoping that went down. It did not!ā
Barker recalled that fellow lead actor Michael Johnston ā who plays a young man who makes an ill-fated wish that his crush will fall in love with him ā even āhad a full haircutā between filming dates.

Still, āI was really excited to see everybody again, and excited with the ideas Curry had,ā Navarrette continued. āTo kind of sink my teeth back into Nikki was cool. Sheās very cathartic. What I was able to do with Nikki onscreen, people only do in their bedrooms feeling that sort of emotion and that heightened of an emotion.ā
Navarrette also said she was thankful for the reshoots, and that they made the film stronger, while Barker suggested that reshoots shouldnāt be taken as an indicator of severe issues with any production.
ā[I was able to add] more ideas that I felt like I didnāt get to add the first time,ā Navarrette said. āWhat an opportunity!ā

Her commitment to the character paid off, as not only did the film become a huge hit (grossing $513 million globally on a reported $750,000 budget), but the film is expected to land Navarrette in the thick of the Best Actress race leading up to the 2027 Oscars.
Navarrette reflected at TIFF on boarding the project, after Barker said she had an āelectrifyingā audition ā though thatās not quite how the actress recalled it.
āI thought I bombed it,ā she said. āI felt electro*cuted*! I was lucky enough that he saw something in me that I didnāt feel like Iād shown.ā
