Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen celebrated their first wedding anniversary on May 31, 2026
Steinfeld revealed on Substack that they celebrated the occasion at home by having a special dinner with their newborn daughter and exchanging meaningful gifts made out of paper
The couple reflected on their first year of marriage by rewatching their wedding video, discussing their favorite memories together, and asking deep questions
Days after Josh Allen and Hailee Steinfeld reached one year of marriage, the singer-actress revealed the sweet way they celebrated.
Steinfeld, 29, married the Buffalo Bills quarterback, 30, last year in Santa Barbara, Calif. She marked their wedding anniversary on Sunday, May 31, on Instagram by posting black-and-white wedding photos with the caption "Oh to relive this day over and over…"
Three days later, on Wednesday, June 3, Steinfeld detailed how they celebrated their marriage milestone with their baby girl in a Beau Society Substack post titled "The first anniversary is paper — MORE BS."
"On May 31st 2025, Josh and I were reading our vows in front of our closest friends and family, on what was, at that point, the best day of our lives. On May 31st 2026, we were sitting on the couch watching our wedding video with our daughter!" Steinfeld wrote. "As we were getting ready for bed that night, I looked at my slightly glossy eyes in the mirror and realized I was crying happy tears."

The Sinners star explained that she and Allen "dressed up" — which on her part meant putting on "a little mascara and a pair of jeans" — for an intimate dinner at home. They were joined by their newborn daughter, who sat "in her bouncy chair" between them.
The couple ate their wedding soup (tortilla) and a homemade mushroom pappardelle, then enjoyed slices of gooey butter cake, which is their "favorite" dessert to order on dates. Afterward, they sat together on the couch and took a trip down memory lane by going through old photos and watching their wedding video.
"We took the occasion to rewatch our wedding video and went back through our camera rolls to find the first photos we ever took together," Steinfeld wrote. "Josh and I talked about our favorite dates and memories together, and just how much life has changed in a year."

The pair paused to "check in" with one another and discuss how their relationship has evolved after a year of marriage. They asked each other "reflective questions about the year," such as, "What's something we've done together this year that you're proud of?" and "What's a dream you have for our relationship that you haven't told me yet?"
"I'm a big fan of taking a moment — be it a birthday, an anniversary, or a new year — to reflect on how much life can change in a relatively short amount of time," Steinfeld shared.

Allen and Steinfeld also exchanged thoughtful paper gifts, following the traditional anniversary gifts by year.
"We recently learned about the traditional anniversary gifts by year, and loved the idea. Give us a very specific project! According to tradition, each year of marriage has a material 'theme,' which represents the material of your anniversary gift," Steinfeld explained. "The first anniversary is paper, symbolizing a blank slate, new beginnings. So to celebrate, we gave each other small paper gifts."
She continued, "I got Josh a deck of custom playing cards with a photo from our wedding, and he printed and framed our favorite wedding photos for the house, which was the best surprise because we've been putting off framing these photos for literally a year. We also wrote each other special anniversary cards, and even though I'm constantly writing him notes (my love language), it felt important to sit down and put pen to paper on our anniversary — especially given the paper theme."

For those new to the tradition, Steinfeld shared a graphic from Good Housekeeping outlining the gift material that coordinates with each year of marriage, up to 60 years. If Allen and Steinfeld stick to their plan and continue the tradition, then next year for their second wedding anniversary they will exchange cotton gifts.
