Evanescence's frontwoman Amy Lee's son is following in her footsteps — and falling hard for metal music.

Lee, 44, recently brought her 11-year-old son, Jack, along for Evanescence's run of shows with Metallica on the band's M72 Tour across Australia and New Zealand. According to the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and classically trained pianist, the experience made a lasting impression.

"I got to bring my son, who's 11 now — just at the perfect age to fall in love with metal," Lee said in an interview with Loudwire published on Wednesday, June 3.

The trip turned out to be even more memorable than Lee expected. She praised Metallica for making both her band and her family feel welcome throughout the tour. "They were so great, they were so gracious," Lee told Loudwire. "You never know how it's going to be coming into somebody else's world."

For her son, one particular moment sealed the deal. "Him getting to experience that in the stadium, rain gently starts falling during 'Nothing Else Matters,' I'm just watching his mind go like, 'I'm in,' " said Lee.

The experience also brought back memories of Lee's own musical awakening. "It was such a good thing for my heart and took me back to being that age and falling in love with music," she said.

Looking ahead, Evanescence is preparing to release its sixth studio album, Sanctuary, on Friday, June 5. Lee believes the record will resonate with both new listeners discovering the band for the first time and longtime fans who have followed her group for years.

"I feel like we're in a moment where words are really important and every single line is an opportunity, it's a chance to say something that's going to impact somebody," Lee explained. "Hopefully in a positive way, make them feel something, whether it's feeling understood or not alone in something or just they're not alone in the craziness of everything going on in the world right now."

She added, "It's f---ed up and it feels like all of our control is being ripped away."

After the album's release, Evanescence will head back on the road this summer, kicking off a new run of tour dates on June 11, 2026. The group's first concert will be in West Palm Beach, Florida.
