Al Roker poked fun at his Today co-host Sheinelle Jones during the Tuesday, Sept. 15 broadcast.
Jones reported live from Los Angeles after a busy night of covering the 2026 Emmy Awards for NBC. The morning show co-host had to get up extra early due to her West Coast time zone after staying up late to cover the carpet at the awards show.
After discussing the ceremony on the 3rd Hour of Today, talk turned to Jones’ stunning emerald green, one-shoulder Lafayette 148 New York gown, which LL Cool J described as “money green.”

“You did look fantastic last night,” Roker told Jones after the segment aired. “Money Green’s your new nickname. Money-green green. Alright, we like it!”
When co-hosts Dylan Dreyer and Kaylee Hartung urged Jones, 48, to “get some sleep” after her booked-and-busy 48 hours, Roker, 72, decided to cut in with some of his signature humor. “Yeah, she’s looking like money now,” he quipped. “She’s a little wrinkled.”

The camera then cut to a shocked Jones, whose mouth dropped open at the playful comment. The longtime weatherman chuckled, insisting he was “just joking,” while Dreyer, 45, said, “I’ll hit him for ya, Sheinelle.”

Jones swiped her hand at the camera in a hitting motion before walking out of frame.
Jokes aside, Jones appeared to have a blast at the star-studded event, sharing photos and videos of herself getting ready and walking the carpet.

“I can’t tell you the emotional gymnastics I go through sometimes before big interviews, it’s like the ‘high school’ version of me who wants that ‘A’ grade kicks in … and I do a ton of homework… but once it’s ‘go time’ - I let go and have A BALL,” she captioned one Instagram clip. “Last night was no exception, we all loved every second on the blue carpet. Lots of laughs … for sure! Super fun.”
In another post, Jones wrote, “It’s not every day we get to put on fabulous dresses and celebrate creativity in such a big way. It was a lot of work — but totally worth it.”
